How this works

Your tax contribution is calculated using HMRC 2024-25 income tax bands and employee Class 1 National Insurance rates. It does not include student loan repayments, council tax, VAT, or other indirect taxes.

The spending breakdown shows how your share is distributed across government functions, using the same method as HMRC's annual tax summary. Each category's percentage is based on its share of Total Expenditure on Services (TES: £1,166.8bn), which covers all UK public spending including local authority services. Some items (e.g. waste collection, fire services) are partly funded by council tax rather than central government, but are included here as they are in the official figures.

Sub-category breakdowns use the COFOG Level 2 classification from PESA 2025, Table 5.2. Amounts are pro-rated to match PSS December 2025 category totals.
